Tanto è grande il rifiuto alla caducità della propria singola esistenza e tanto è suscettibile la variazione della "ricerca del vero" (nella società attuale in modo meno affascinante si chiama " vita ordinaria"), che la sua mutazione sensoriale in tempo reale avviene addirittura in azioni di routine o nell'ascolto ripetitivo, ad esempio di un orologio, in cui le lancette non eseguiranno mai pur seguendo un ritmo perfetto - all'orecchio umano - lo stesso inequivocabile rumore... TIC... TIC... TIC... TIC...TIC... TIC...

La capacità trascendente dell' io nel - sogno come migrazione - è un fenomeno legato al sonno e in particolare alla sua fase - REM - . Questa è caratterizzata da un'esperienza sensoriale di immagini e suoni - apparentemente reali - in cui ciò che è uno stato di realtà e ciò che è relativo ad una creazione sensoriale fittizia, diventano del tutto simili e per tutto riconducibili ad uno stesso campo percettivo dove si intrecciano dando forma ad una sorta di "trans-veglia" durante il sonno, dove flussi - in alcuni casi critici - di codificazioni simboliche elettriche, formano una sorta di conscio e di esosistema morfologico paralleli creati e vissuti dallo stesso genitore.
La registrazione dei potenziali nervosi applicata ai processi di attivazione cerebrale corticale che si verificano durante la migrazione, compiuta dal finlandese Aurinko nel 1929, ha condotto Emoszkow a ricerche sulla registrazione di una attività elettrica corticale notturna più recentemente.
Utilizzando le tecnica di elettroencefalografia (EEG) si è visto che quando un individuo si assopisce e i suoi pensieri tendono "ad andare alla deriva", che in termini tecnici si dice fase ipnagogica del sonno, le onde cerebrali cominciano a rallentare.
Quando un individuo passa dallo stato cosciente ad uno stato iniziale di sonno compaiono i "fusi del sonno" (spindles).
Quando infine cade in sonno "profondo" il cervello produce le ampie "onde delta".
Il sonno R.E.M. è caratterizzato da una spiccata attività cerebrale che sul tracciato encefalografico si traduce nella presenza di onde cerebrali a frequenza mista di basso voltaggio, con movimenti oculari rapidi e riduzione del tono muscolare antigravitario.
In media si hanno 4 fasi REM per notte, che durano circa 20 minuti ognuna, con una frequenza di circa 2 ore fra una fase e l'altra; nelle prime 3 fasi si sogna, mentre nella quarta sembra che siano presenti più che altro pensieri. Nei primi anni di ricerche la Migrazione è stata registrata in più di una occasione applicando dei sensori antifurto ai candidati. Durante i cicli di sovvenzione privata che hanno consentito di usare apparecchiature più sofisticate, i candidati sono stati ritrovati - una volta lasciati liberi di sognare - in uno stato di trance vegetativo nei posti più svariati, senza che riuscisse loro di spiegare, una volta riportati allo stato di coscienza, la loro momentanea scomparsa.
